For each set of Clustor runs a plan file is necessary. The plan file specifies parameters, data, input files, output files and processing commands necessary to execute Matlab. It can be edited directly using an ASCII text editor, or can be generated automatically using the Preparator tool in Clustor.

Two parameters are varied in this simulation, the network traffic and network traffic delay. These are represented by the variables data and step. In network theory, the highest traffic that a network can carry on average is 1.0. In real life, the traffic on a network would be kept below 0.8 or 0.7 on average. This is because the traffic level doesn't stay constant, but rises and falls. A traffic load of 1.0 would collapse the controller. In this simulation, data is varied from 6 to 10 on the x-axis, which is around 0.7 to 0.97 network traffic. Step is varied from 6 to 100 and is plotted on the y-axis. The step is the network traffic delay in unit time. The results obtained from varying these parameters are plotted on the z-axis.

The plan file used for this simulation was generated using the Clustor Preparator.

A network of 16 Digital DecAlphas was used in the simulation. Clustor was run in batch mode in the background. The network addresses are stored in a text file called clustor.nodes. This file tells Clustor the information it needs to log into the listed computers automatically, eliminating the need to login into each computer individually.
