Lecture 17 - Eye Contact
-
Need eye contact with the whole audience
-
Many speakers habitually look at a certain sections of the audience
-
Others look at their presentation equipment
-
Others face away from the audience
-
How is it possible to make eye contact with 160 people?
-
It's hard for the audience to tell exactly who you're looking at
-
Mentally divide the room into sections, look at each section
-
Move your gaze across the whole room, SLOWLY!
-
Not enough to do this once - eye contact should be regular throughout
the talk
- For a smaller group
- You can still divide the room into sections, or look at each member randomly
- Focusing on one or two may make them and others uncomfortable
