CSE3302 : Software Engineering Project, 2003

CSSE, MONASH UNIVERSITY, AUSTRALIA

Subject to change! Check regularly!

The Age, `Next', p3, 19 August 2002: "The University of NSW ... handles about 15,000 [emails] an hour, rising to 70,000 an hour when it is being spammed....". ABC is many times larger than UNSW.
Coincidentally (?) on Tues 12 August ITS started trialling SpamAssassin. ITS configured it to add lines such as the following to the headers:
  X-Spam-Level: *********
  X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.55 (1.174.2.19-2003-05-19-exp)
  X-Spam-Flag: YES
(Mail processors such as procmail and mail readers can be configured to "take action" dependent on SpamAssassin's additions.) And on Wed 20 August I got my 1st spam with a "forged":
X-Spam-Checked: This message probably not SPAM
in the mail headers.
[RFC822] - Standard for the format of ARPA Internet text messages, revised by David H. Crocker (1982).
