Desktop Infrastructure Allowance

Staff appointed to positions greater than 0.5 fraction are eligible for a desktop infrastructure allowance.
 

Staff in on-going positions

Staff in on-going positions are allocated $1500 (not including GST) per year to maintain their desktop infrastructure.  The allocation accumulates, and the next years allocation may be borrowed from and spent in the current year.  In the first year of appointment, these staff are able to borrow from two years in advance.
 

Staff on Fixed Term Contracts

Normally, these staff will be allocated desktop infrastructure from existing stock.  If the allocated equipment is not sufficient, on application to the Head of Technical Services, desktop infrastructure funds may be released to provide suitable equipment.
 

Staff in Positions Funded by Research Grants

In the case of positions funded from research grants, the school will provide a standard desktop computer.   Any enhancement of this equipment will be funded from the research grant, after approval by the administartor(s) of the grant.
 

  The Use of the Desktop Infrastructure Allowance

  1. Normally staff can choose desktop infrastructure required to perform their duties.  General staff should consult with their supervisors.
  2. The desktop allowance may not be used to support home offices.
  3. Generally, a desktop consists of one computer and peripherals.  Any superseded equipment should be returned for recycling.
  4. All equipment purchased remains the property of Monash University, and allocated to The School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
