Proposal to support non-E1 travel from staff travel allowance
This policy extends the existing School travel policy to cater for non-E1 travel in a limited way.
For the School to support staff travel, the current School travel policy requires staff present an E1 paper. With the devolution of MRF travel funds to Schools on a formula basis, the prior MRF
travel categories related to institutional visits, collaboration etc are no longer legitimate reasons for School contributions to travel. At the same time there are many worthy causes for staff travel
support including non-E1 conferences or workshops of a very high standing but accepting
extended abstract, attendance of strategically important standardization meetings, national or
international collaborative meetings - especially proposal meetings BEFORE corresponding
collaborations projects are funded.
The following amendments are proposed:
- Other than E1-conference trips are supported in special circumstances.
- Staff must make a proposal to the Head of School, outlining the reason for the travel and propose a budget for the trip.
Note: As of Thursday, 18 October, 2001, all overseas travel must have the
approval of the Dean. Please refer to Ron Webber's email.
