Semester Two

week14 <:24 October 2000>

  • refer to log book
  • week13 <:14 October 2000>

  • working on Final thesis draft. Day and nite. What to write?
  • week12 <:6 October 2000>

  • refer to log book
  • week11 <:29 September 2000>

  • Started to write up the final thesis report, shall we stop coding altogether now?
  • week10 <:22 September 2000>

  • working on extension of Autonode, Autoline now works correctly. looking good. Automesh sometime in the future?
  • changing the basic arhitecture of our design, Fastbuf now holds all the autonodes and autolines instead of Xwin. time consuming and anti-productive
  • week9 <:15 September 2000>

  • encapsulated a car object, on ComPort, Thread, BaseSema, very OO efficient!
  • semaphore working correctly, now consumer consumes a char and forward that to the ComPort where Producer produce a command, and signal via a semaphore.
  • week8 <:8 September 2000>

  • Working on bttv driver, need to implement an efficient synchronization method.
  • started to look at Consumer and Producer topology. a Semaphore somewhere?
  • week7 <:1 September 2000>

  • Working on pthread library, built a C++ wrapper around it with member function passing to pthread_create(...). Working great! OO style pthread!!!
  • Multiple threads for all Xwindows, serveEvent(...) working great!! can use a functor somewhere?
  • Started to work on the 1st draft for my final thesis!
  • week6 <:22 August 2000>

  • Managed to purchase a frame-grabber(bttv) finally. This one is definately the most suitable, both in terms of performance and cost! Good boy...
  • Building the modules for bttv. Took a long time, lots of problem!!! but managed to get it working after 3 days of struggle!
  • Roughly tested our bttv card, (TV tuner and Composite1). Got both tuner and composite1 working with our Linux Kernal. Also, interfacing with our prototype model OK. Transmitting on Channel 30.
  • week5 <:15 August 2000>

  • Purchased a CPD6402 IC from RS-Components in Port Melbourne. so far away...
  • Working on the design of the RF-Controller for our second car.
  • week4 <:7 August 2000>

  • jumped into small-signal lab, dis-assembing the controller in our 2nd car, de-soldering a few components and measured various characteristics.
  • a simple design figured out... shall we build it now?
  • week3 <:1 August 2000>

  • No time left, panicing, bumped into a wall...
  • checked out a few frame-grabber in the stores. Too expensive!
  • week2 <:24 July 2000>

  • email njh, as suggested by Lloyd, asking for advice on frame-grabber
  • Updating Project Website
  • coding + refining Xwindows related routines
  • week1 <:17 July 2000>

  • Mid-Year presentation is over! Did pretty well, but Lloyd didnt turn up :-(
  • Working on the progress report

  • Semester One

    week13 <:30 May 2000>

  • Final week of semester one. Nine assignments due this week! giving a total of 190% score (50%,10%,10%,10%,25%,25%,15%,15%,30%). What is the meaning of life?
  • no work on CCC done this week.
  • week 11&12 <:18 May 2000 - 24 May 2000>

  • Working on other assignment... 50% cannot afford to work on anything else!
  • More assignments due next week, working very very very hard indeed...
  • read a few robotics related paper.
  • week10 <:8 May 2000>

  • first version of the simulator is working quite good, need to implement more stuff there...
  • What have I done this week, can't remember...
  • week9 <:1 May 2000>

  • Help!! 2 Assignments due this week! 30% and 15% ...
  • building a simulator for later track id use.
  • week7 <:10 April 2000>

  • Able to interface Controller with RS-232!
  • Simple computer control now possible on my Linux box.
  • Need a new model on controlling the left/right movement!
  • week 5&6 <:27 March -3 April 2000>

  • Bridging existing DIN-8 Controller interface with RS-232
  • Measuring Prototype's capability, radius = 82cm for full circle
  • Coding on folding algorithm & basic map
  • Pthread-ed executable with 44fps working!

  •

    week4 <:20 March 2000>

  • Decided to go for PC implementation
  • Looking for appropriate FrameGrabber
  • Examined Tims Code, thoroughly.
  • Poking around XShm Extension
  • Attempting "Track Folding Algorithm" in C++
  • Goal set... 6m/s + 10fps
  • Quite satistify with XShm performance -->45fps on PIII

  •

    week3 <:13 March 2000>

  • Year schedule outline basics + milestone whereabouts
  • obtained cart from Prof. Allison and,
  • spent 5 hours disassembling various parts
  • a LARGE latency on response. Bad!

  •

    week2 <:6 March 2000>

  • Picked CCD and CCC as my prioritized preferenced selection
  • Submitted application form and started searching for "vision"

  •

    week1 <:28 Feburary 2000>

  • Back from summer vacation.
