To get a good idea of the background and history of the CCC, you should
first have a look at the reading list and read
Tim's and
Daniel's Theses.
Then you should download
my two presentations and look through them.
Got a good idea now? OK, let me fill in the gaps. The CCC is an
autonomous vehicle that began as an honours
thesis at Monash University's
Computer
Science department. It seems every year the idea has been trashed and
started from scratch and that's where I come in. After lying dormant since 2000
the car still has no useable software that it can take with it into the next life.
So I built some. It's not a huge step ahead of what it had - but at least the next
person to pick it up can use it (with luck).
The aim CCC is to be able to race around a track about whose shape it has
absolutely no idea. Eventually, the goal is to have multiple cars navigating
the track and racing, even avoiding crashing into each other.
Currently, the car will do laps of an arbitrary circuit made up of
carpet tiles. (See the picture archive for some
images)
The entire thesis can be veiwed online or downloaded in pdf format. This gives a deeper
introduction to the car itself, and a good description of how I went about
solving the problems that beset the car.
