Running the Simulator

Running the Simulator

The following provides a brief description of how the simulator is operated and is intended to give the user a feel of what using the simulator is like. For a more complete User's Guide please refer to Appendix 3 in the thesis.

Running the simulator involves 4 steps.

  1. Getting Started - Instructions on how to start up the simulator.
  2. Configure TCP Settings
  3. - Select the flow control algorithms for simulation and setup their variables and parameters.

  4. Configuring Traffic Generators - Configure the general link settings as well as the delay and loss generators used for the communications link that connects the left and right hosts.
  5. Viewing/Interacting with the simulation- Using the various GUI components to view/interact with the flow control algorithms being simulated during the simulation.
Note that once steps 2 and 3 are completed, the simulator settings can be saved to file using the "Save Simulator Settings" option in the "Simulator" menu. These settings can be loaded later using the "Load Simulator Settings" option in the "Simulator" menu to bypass steps 2 and 3 and go directly to step 4.

To exit the simulator at anytime, either press the "x" button on the top right hand corner of the simulator window or use the "Exit Simulator" option in the "Simulator" menu.
