Running the Simulator => Configuring Traffic Generators

Configuring Traffic Generators

The following provides a brief descriptions of how to configure data traffic generator settings for the simulator. For a complete guide, please refer to Section 3 for Appendix 3 in the thesis.

To begin, select the "Configure Traffic Generator" option under the "Configure Communications Link Settings" menu to bring up the following panel.

Setup General Communications Link Settings Panel Screenshot

Configure General Link Settings

The top panel configures the settings for the Left to Right (LR) and Right to Left (RL) uni-directional communications links. To change the settings for either of these links, simply enter the new value into the appropriate field.

For information on what each setting does, please refer to Section 3.1 in Appendix 3 in the thesis.

Select and Configure Delay Generators

Once the general settings are finalized, the propagation delay generators used for the Left to Right or Right to Left links can be configured by selecting the "Left to Right" or "Right to Left" radio buttons, highlighting a generator in the "Delay Generators Available:" panel and pressing the "Configure Delay Generator" button. A panel then appears that can be used to configure the selected delay generator.

Select and Configure Loss Generators

Once the delay generators are configured, the loss generator used for the Left to Right or Right to Left links can be configured by selecting, highlighting a generator in the "Loss Generators Available:" panel and pressing the "Configure Loss Generator" button. A panel then appears that can be used to configure the selected loss generator.

To finalize the general link settings as well as the delay and loss generators configured, press the "OK" button.

Now that the simulator is configured, the user can then start the simulator and view/interact with it.
