Research Project:    Generalized Rule Discovery [Assessment]

List of Research Papers: Papers

Project Description:  Rule discovery involves searching through a space of rules to determine rules of interest to a user. The rules are usually developed from very large databases. From these rules interesting rules are chosen as specified by a user. The GRD  approach is chosen to implement negative rules as the user does not have to specify a support constraint and the user can generate a specific number of rules. The aim of the project is to determine whether or not developing negative rules in addition to positive rules is tractable. My thesis is available from Assessment -> Thesis or here.

Project Outcome: Developing negative rules and positive rules is tractable using the GRD approach.

Future Work: The are two main areas of future work that I have identified.

  • Apply filters to eliminate spurious rules and assess usefulness of negative rules

  • Use Variable Hierarchies to to group similar rules

Course work completed:

  • Bayesian Models
  • Learning and Prediction: Data Mining
  • Formal Methods
  • Network Design and Management
  • Parallel Architectures
  • Data and Image Compression
