Introduction

Computer graphic has developed rapidly in recent decades. Much of the research has been focused on geometric modelling which aims to generate high degree of visualised models. Many methods of geometric modelling exist; however they are diverse in purpose and application.

The aim of this project is to create a software that can automate the construction of organic models using generalised cylinders method. The challenge is to create organic models which its shape can be described physically or even mathematically but also results in naturally visualised models. To create such a modelling system, a thorough comprehension of the model structure is required. The study of global characteristic of the organic form becomes a significant matter. This study attempts to correlate biology studies with computer graphics to obtain realistic organic modelling.

From the biological point of view, morphology is defined as the study of the form and structure of organisms. The exploration of morphology in broader observed body size has shown that cylinders are frequently found to be a common shape and natural way for describing organic structure. Here we use generalised cylinders to model such properties of organic structure, since generalised cylinders also has the ability to provide the creation of smooth curvatures.
