Ravi Jain received the Ph. D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas
at Austin in 1992. Prior to that, he worked for several years on communications
and systems software implementation, performance modeling, and parallel programming.
From 1992 to May 2002 he was at Applied Research, Telcordia Technologies (formerly
Bellcore) in Morristown, NJ, most recently as Director of the Middleware and
Mobile Applications Research Group. Jain's research interests include design
and analysis of algorithms, architectures and protocols for mobile computing
and communications, as well as middleware and APIs for supporting mobile users
and for advanced Next Generation Network applications. He is currently Vice
President and Project Manager in the Autonomous Communications Lab, NTT DoCoMo
USA Labs, San Jose, CA (http://www.docomolabs-usa.com/). Jain has numerous publications
in his research area and several issued and pending patents. He is an Area Editor
for IEEE Trans. On Mobile Computing, ACM MONET and ACM MC2R, and has been a
Guest Editor for Special Issues of several journals. Currently he serves as
the conference coordinator for ACM SIGMOBILE. Jain was also the Specification
Lead for the JAIN industry forum specification on Java Call Control (JCC) for
Next Generation Networks, as well as the Parlay industry forum Parlay X working
group. Jain is a member of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi honorary
societies, a senior member of IEEE, and a member of the ACM.
