Background
In 1978 Peter Tischer received
a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science from Monash University. In 1983 he
completed a PhD in the "The Cyclic Use of Linear Multistep Formulas
far the Solution of Stiff Ordinary Differential Equations". In 1982
he became an academic staff member in the Department of Computer Science
at Monash University and is currently a senior lecturer in the School
of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Since completing his PhD
he has developed interests in universal data compression, lossless image
compression, image processing and minimal message length inductive inference.
He is particularly interested in applying minimal message length principles
to image processing. This combination has already led to the development
of a method for lossless compression of greyscale images that is currently
achieving the best lossless compression of any method reported in the
open literature.
