Western Australia is a long way from the eastern states of Australia, where I have spent most of my life, so I have never been particularly intimate with WA railways. However, I have made one or two trips over there, and what little there is in this section arises from those visits. Any reader who is willing and able to contribute images of WA railway scenes not covered here is encouraged to write to me.

G class

(These days, my age cannot be described as "tender", but more likely, "tanked" Description : In 1961 I travelled to the UK by ship, and on returning, called at Fremantle on the way. This cute little G class, which is very similar to theSAR Y class, q.v., was shunting the wharves. Unfortunately, not much of the Fremantle railway yards now survive.

J class Bo-Bo diesel electric

The quintuple header consists of: ANR 422 class 42211, ATN L class 254 and 830 class 8?? and 8??, and Great Northern unidentified GM class. One of the 830 class appeared to have broken down which may be the reason for all these loco's being coupled to one train. On the left in front is Austrac 18 class 1872 which is often here. On the right is CFCLA KL class KL80. A veritable cornucopia of Aussie private locomotive stock!

V class 2-8-2

V1209 was purchased in 1981 by the Bellarine Peninsula Railway, and restored to service in March 1991, with the assistance of Alcoa of Australia, Ltd.
