Dr Arkady Zaslavsky

Background

Arkady Zaslavsky received a PhD in Computer Science from the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1987. His area of study was related to CASE tools for database design.

He has held positions ranging from an analyst-programmer to head of system software laboratory at the Institute of Computational Mathematics of Georgian Academy of Sciences. He currently holds a position of Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science & Software Engineering of Monash University. He is deputy director of the "Distributed Systems and Software Engineering" Research Centre.

Dr Zaslavsky has over 20 years of R&D experience in many fields of computing, primarily mobile & distributed computing, database systems, operating systems and computer applications.

He authored and co-authored more than 100 research papers and reports. He is a member of ACS, ACM, IEEE Computer and Communcations Societies. He is also on the executive for the IEEE Technical Committee on Internetworking. He is on the editorial board of Elsevier Science's international research journal "Computer Communications". He is the "Distributed databases" area editor for IEEE "Distributed Systems Online" magazine. He is actively involved in refereeing papers for many conferences and journals in the fields of mobile computing, wireless networking and databases.

  • Establishment and leadership of the research group on mobile computing at the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
  • Organisation of two Australian Workshops on Mobile Computing & Databases & Applications in 1996 and 1997.
  • Organisation of MDDS'98, MDDS'99 & MDDS'2000 International workshops "Mobility in databases and distributed systems" at Database & Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) conferences in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
