Personal information and background

I did my undergraduate and graduate studies with the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics at Tbilisi State University, Georgia, USSR. I graduated with Master of Science (with Distinction) in Applied Mathematics with major in Computer Science in 1976 (Thesis:"Requirements Analysis and Specifications Development for Data Bank and Computer Network in the Autonomous Republic"). I have done my PhD course in computer science at the Moscow Institute for Control Sciences (Russian abbreviation IPU) (former IAT - Institute of Automatics & Telemechanics) at the USSR Academy of Sciences. I publicly "defended" my PhD project at the Georgian Academy of Sciences (Georgia, USSR) in 1987 (PhD Thesis: "Research and Development of Principles for Computer-Aided Database Design").

My professional career in computing spans more than 22 years. I worked with Soviet -designed and -made computers of 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations, as well as with numerous models of IBM mainframe compatible computers. I have been studying, mastering, modifying and crashing all sorts of operating systems, databases, software products and utilities. Since 1987 I added PCs and Unix boxes into my collection. My most recent job before coming to Australia was with the Institute of Computational Mathematics of Georgian Academy of Sciences where I headed the System Software Laboratory. Concurrently with that I did a number of consulting projects and educated computing students at the Tbilisi State University.

Since coming to Australia in 1991, I teach and do research at Monash University.
