Scientific Software Engineer / Research Programmer

Monash University (Faculty of Information Technology)

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Scientific Software Engineer / Research Programmer exists to develop High Performance Computing software for Computational Biology in an ARC funded research program.

The project investigates the principles of self-organization in biological systems and uses large scale computer simulations on cluster computers as one of its main tools. Project details are available at http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~berndm/CDM. The successful applicant will develop simulation models and will closely collaborate with the Monash eResearch Centre to implement simulation software on CPU and GPU clusters.

The position requires an advanced degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and experience in simulation and/or high performance computing. The ideal candidate has expertise in CUDA and/or OpenCL programming, C++, Java, and in the implementation of stochastic simulations (particularly Reaction-Diffusion). Knowledge in Mathematica and Matlab is desirable but not required. Applicants with an advanced degree in another relevant scientific discipline (Biology, Physics, Physical Chemistry) and demonstrated experience in the implementation of computational models and tools will also be considered. A PhD and postdoctoral research experience are not required but considered advantages.

The position is based at Monash University, Melbourne, but will offer interested candidates the opportunity to spend time at other national and international nodes of the project.

We invite full-time and part-time applications for appointment as Research Fellow Level A/B. All applications must include a curriculum vitae, contact details of two referees and must address the selection criteria. If available, copies of indicative publications should be included in the application.
