Australian Crested Pidgeon

Mated pair of Australian Crested Pidgeons (Ocyphaps lophotes).

Mundane as Australian suburbia might be, we often do get interesting visitors. This web page contains a selection of recent suburban wildlife pictures of interest.

The Crested Pidgeon (Ocyphaps lophotes) is an Australian species common across most of the continent, and increasing seen in the suburbs of major cities. These attractive birds are very social and mated pairs frequently display affection. Other than the distinctive crest, these birds are also notable by their iridiscent wing panels.

Imagery produced using a range of different cameras and lenses, including: Nikon D7100 with Sigma AF 400mm f/5.6 APO and Sigma AF 100-300mm f/4 EX IF HSM APO; D800 and Sigma AF 400mm f/5.6 APO; and Nikon D90 and a range of lenses, including the  Nikkor AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6D ED autofocus telephoto zoom lens, and the Mamiya Sekor A 200mm f/2.8 APO manual focus apochromatic telephoto prime lens.
