deep explores the sublime ocean and the human fear of the unknown. Visitors to the exhibit travel from the stormy surface beneath the menacing waves into a disorienting, subterranean world of limitless possibility. Here they may only experience the vastness of their apprehensions through brief glimpses of bizarre and beautiful creatures unknown on the earth’s surface. The poetry of this work is based on the writings of early seafarers, contemporary marine biology, and on the documentation and collections generated by our unrelenting quest to eliminate any vestiges of wilderness from nature.
