I wish I were
By Debbie Pickett
This piece of singsong verse I whipped up during a bored few
minutes.
I wish I were a postgrad,
With half a Ph.D.,
For then I'd have a good excuse
To stay awake till three.
I wish I were a keyboard,
With posts to monash.test,
For then I'd make all clicking sounds
Whenever I were pressed.
I wish I were a mermaid,
With nought to do all day,
For then I'd see what nasty things
Pollute Port Phillip Bay.
I wish I were a longing,
With such expression terse,
For then I'd be all clever with
Self-referential verse.
