CSE4402 is a substantial research project run over two semesters. See the calendar page for a timeline of important dates and hurdles.
The research proposal summarises the research to be undertaken and includes a detailed plan describing how the research is to be undertaken.
The literature review should provide a detailed survey and analysis of prior research in the area of your project topic.
The thesis documents your achievements in researching and implementing the project. It will normally be 20 to 30 sides (A4, 11-point), not counting the literature survey and appendices (e.g. programs, documentation and data-sets, but these are probably better reserved for the web-site). It may be somewhat longer if it contains a great many figures and tables. The thesis should be prepared in Latex, and must be submitted as (i) a printed version (2 copies), (ii) a pdf file, (iii) with the Latex source), and also (recommended) (iv) an HTML file. Program-source and data files must also be submitted and the combined information stored on the faculty web site.
Assistance with the assessment components will be covered by a series of workshops. For the research proposal, literature review and thesis, you need to submit two printed copies to the CSIT general office by 12 noon on the due date (note that the thesis has additional submission requirements as listed above).
Hurdle Penalties: The Honours project mark will be multiplied by (100-p)/100 where `p' is the total numerical penalty points accumulated. Particularly note the requirement to attend and evaluate at least the specified minimum number of seminars each semester and to submit seminar evaluation forms to the CSSE office (Clayton) -- immediately after the seminars! Attendance at (all!) the S.E. final honours presentations is also compulsory.
