New Entry or Amendment Submission Form

Use this form to submit a possible new entry or amendment to the JMDict/EDICT electronic Japanese/English dictionary file. To suggest an amendment to an existing entry, paste in the headword and reading and put the amendment details into the English and/or Comment fields. (Some guidelines for using this form). Note:
  1. new entry submissions will be automatically added to the WWWJDIC server, so take extra care. Amendments may take a while as they have to be edited by hand.
  2. all proposed new entries and amendments are viewable on the submissions WWW site. Email addresses will not be included.
Headword. In this field enter the main Japanese word of the proposed entry. This will usually have one or more kanji. Use this field if the word is written only in hiragana and/or katakana.


Alternative headwords. In these fields enter any alternative ways of writing the Japanese word, e.g. 合氣道 as an alternative to 合気道.
Reading of the headword in kana. In this field enter the reading of the word in kana. Use hiragana, except where the headword contains katakana, in which case use katakana here too. If the headword is only in kana, do not repeat it here.


Alternative readings. In these fields enter any alternative readings of the word, e.g. 草原 has readings くさはら and そうげん.
Part of speech. Select the "part of speech" of the word: noun, adjective, etc. There must be at least one, and you can have up to four.
Miscellaneous. Select other codes relating to the word: uk, abbr, etc. You may have up to three such codes.





English meaning(s). Enter the meaning(s) of the word in English. One meaning per line, please. Where the word has several distinct senses, please keep them grouped, and put (1), (2), etc. in front of the first translation in each sense. Take care that it is regular text; not Japanese double-width text.
Cross-Reference The headword(s) of other entries to which this should be cross-referenced. If more than one, separate with commas.
References. Indicate a verifiable source for the word. You may paste in an example of its use.
Comments. Any comments you wish to make about the submission.

Your name and email address. Include these if you wish an acknowledgement and/or feedback on your submission. You can preset these values using the customize form.
