Current Entry | 世界公民 [せかいこうみん] /(?) ???/RH/ |
Headword 1 | 世界公民 |
Reading 1 | せかいこうみん |
Part-of-speech | exp |
English 1 | citizen of the world |
English 2 | world citizen |
Reference | See below. |
Comment | This does not get that many Google hits and trying to find a translation does not seem to be easy; yet I find it in text. Often in the form of "世界公民主義". One can also find the headword above used as a prefix, for example, prefixing diary. This seems to attach the meaning "Cosmopolitan Diary". However, cosmopolitan is usually "世界主義".
If this were promoted, your experts may be prompted to improve on the basic meaning of "citizen of the world" |

Comment | This picks up over 30,000 Google hits. It is a widely used and accepted expression. I wonder if it can be promoted so that it comes up on a first search. The individual headwords are included, but they come up so often together in text that there is merit in promotion. |

Comment | I think that perhaps the reading "しょうそこ" is wrong and therefore the RH does not get deleted. See entries below:-
消息 【しょうそく】 (n) (1) news (from somebody); letter; contact; (2) (somebody's) whereabouts; (somebody's) movements; (P) 消息 【しょうそく】 to remedy; BU Perhaps a manual deletion of the RH. |

Comment | In response to Rene Malenfant's amendment (and comment, "i've never heard
of a 'monkey banana'."): It's called "monkey banana" by English speakers in the Philippines (in Tagalog it is "saging matsing", whereby "saging" means "banana" and "matsing" is one of the existing terms for "monkey" (probably in an oblique case)) . It is also called モンキーバナナ in Okinawa; so it is wasei, but the English term should be kept as well, since it is legitimate (if regional, i.e., PH English) |
