English 1 | kanji radical "wa" or "covering" at top (radical 14) |

Comment | Whilst I can see the relationship with "roof", I am just asking if this should not be described as "covering."
See the entry for "roof" as follows:- ウ冠 【ウかんむり】 (n) (宀) (See 字) "roof" kanji radical (radical 40) |

Editorial Comment | Yes, covering is probably better (John Haig uses it in the New Nelson.) |
Current Entry | ウ冠 [ウかんむり] /(n) (宀) (See 字) |

Comment | Again, just added "at top."
I am now wondering whether there is some merit in a tidy up of the "冠" class of radical entries. Some give the radical number, some say "at top", etc. Maybe, with your facilities to locate the total of these entries, you may consider that it is worth the effort. |

Comment | I was searching for this headword when I came across the radical entries which led to my earlier suggestions, but I could not find any help on this headword.
I have decided to make a submission in the belief that one of your experts will provide confirmation of my own research. There are some 150k Google hits, but not much clarification that I can find. The sentence where I picked up the headword was "日本の陶磁器に冠称される 「古」という文学" Generally, it seems be associated with "kudos" (perhaps) or naming a brand. Sorry, if I am being a nuisance, but the search did lead to some useful [I hope] comments on radicals. |
