Reading 1 | こうかんじゅよう |
Part-of-speech | n |
English 1 | need for replacement |
Comment | What I meant by my comment was simply that you could provide more references to established dictionaries instead of just the text that you're translating. Maybe I was a bit overcritical since most of the words that you submit are not in any dictionary. It's just that I noticed that you hadn't linked to Eijiro or Daijirin or gg5 for some words that have entries and it's always better to provide the reference if there's one. I didn't want to imply that you need to make thorough research before submitting a word. Just a quick check on Eijiro/whatever other dictionary you have.
I agree that in some contexts the proper translation could be "need for replacement".I still think that demand for replacement (lightbulbs) is better but I might be wrong. Thanks for your contributions & keep up the good work. |

Oops. ;-) > - it's very common (4.5M googits), That number is slightly odd itself - I got 901,000 when I did the exact same search from a different Google server. 合わせる gets 9.5M or 9.9M (depending on server) > and that was the best I could come up with from looking > at a lot of examples. Any suggestions are welcome. I haven't seen anything that suggests it is any different in meaning to that you'd expect that translation from the causative. 合わせる -> 合わせようとする 合わせる has 8 senses given, logically 合わせようとする would have just as many, unless there is some special idiomatic meaning for this entry - and I am not convinced that there is. I'd be tempted to just drop it as a separate entry. |

Comment | This term is often written in kana only, but you had told me not to put in the kana
twice. If i don't put kana in the reading field the script will complain. ;-) So... did you mean that kana in the headword is not needed if it is kana-only, i.e., not mixed with kanji? |

Editorial Comment |
If a word has a kanji form, but is usually written just in kana, put in the
tag "uk". Apart from that it is structured like any other entry. The "headword"
field in the form only gets a kana-only word when there is NO kanji version, e.g.
a 外来語, etc. Thus: あざとい /(adj-i) clever/sly/cunning/pushy/ [no kanji form, so あざとい is the headword] 有り難う [ありがとう] /(conj,exp) (uk) (abbr) Thank you/ [has a kanji form, but is usually in kana.] |

The problem I have is that I see this used in sentences like ... 〜が強いため〜 Because ~ is strong ~ That is obviously not a good match for the glosses given here. I am certainly open to the idea that 強いため is used in a fashion that matches the glosses given here, but I would like to see references or example sentences for that. |
