Comment | Totally agree with Paul's comment. 強いため most often (always?) means "because x is strong", as in 嘔吐反射が強いため全身麻酔で歯科治療を受けたい (random example from google). Far from being helpful, this entry is merely confusing. |

Comment | Just a comment, since Jim had mentioned,
> Your sentence shows the PoS is "adj-no"; not "pre". Sorry... for some reason (likely because i have not been posting much here in recent months and thus got out of shape) i had ended up marking the PoS of the English rather than that of the Japanese. Have adjusted the related algorithm in my head now... ;-) |

Comment | 1) Re yesterday's entry:
> Headword 1 組み合わす > Headword 2 組合す > Reading 1 くみあわす > English 1 to join together > English 2 to combine > English 3 to join up > Cross-reference 組み合わせる > Editorial Comment 組み合わす is already an entry. The existing entry had not come up, and the obvious explanation is that i looked for 組み合わす and not 組み合す. Given what we have, i have now combined the information here, so you can remove yesterday's entry. 2) The currently listed meaning "to dovetail together" is in English vi only and not vt, so i cannot see it fit here in the least since 組み合わす is unambiguously vt - OTOH, "to dovetail together" fits 組み合う, and i'll submit it there next... |

Comment | I have been watching the exchanges regarding this headword and, in the context of the general comments which were made in my submission on "ます," I have become interested in the capacity of someone who seeks to understand something.
This heading gets over 400k Google hits so it has some general usage. There is clearly a difference when "ため" is followed by "に" from when it is not so followed. In the case of the headword the "に" is not indicated so perhaps the concept by your [A] link fits the case, namely:- [which I take, in reality, to mean] "(being) strongly due to (something)." In any event, when your heavyweight contributors have a difference about meaning, surely it is only that difference which needs to be resolved by them; as opposed to the debate about whether or not the headword should be included in the dictionary. I, for my part, value the debate because it helps with my understanding; whether or not you decide to delete the entry. However, for all those other searchers who did not have the benefit of seeing the debate, if the entry is deleted, they would be the worse off in the context of understanding a fairly well used expression. Hopefully, your experts can find the translations which remove all confusion and which allows the entry to be preserved and, moreover, preserve an entry which is bound to help some novice at sometime in the future. |

Editorial Comment | I tend to include rather than exclude, but there's sometimes a fine line between just a common collocation and something rather idiomatic. |
