New Entries/Amendments for 2010-05-20

These are the submissions received via the WWW forms for this day. I (Jim Breen) will annotate the submission if I think it needs to be amended or rejected or if I have a question about it. Otherwise it can be assumed that it has been accepted. You can see how it will look in EDICT by looking at the "diffs" file for this day or the next in the diffs directory.
Annotations completed: 20 May.

CommentWhat was the policy on including -さ forms of adjectives? This one is obvious enough IMHO, so I question its inclusion.

On the other hand, 高さ is something I'd keep because it is somewhat more distinct in its usage (for example you might find it as a column title in a table that lists mountains, etc.). 深さ is another that I don't have a problem with.

Editorial Comment I just added to the Editorial Policy: "for the -さ (-ness) and -く (adverb) inflections of adjective, only include them if the meaning is not obvious from the gloss of the adjective itself." See: http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy#Headwords
That said, I'm pretty relaxed about it. I agree that 高さ and 深さ should stay.

CommentUpdated from CA\4

Note, re the recent related entries: You may wonder why i specifically
distinguish between the terms "wiring" and "circuit" in this context. As it
happens, the terms for PCBs and PWBs are in many cases used completely
interchangeably, but there are some people who maintain that there is a
distinction between the two, namely that PWBs have a standardized (pre-
selected) pattern layout while PCBs have a custom layout (different on a case
to case basis) - there is no need for EDICT to become involved in that
discussion, since it is not an encyclopedia, and since 専門家 know what to make
of the terminology... ; -)

CommentRabbitfishes or spinefoots are perciform fishes in the family Siganidae. The 28 species are in a single genus, Siganus[1]. In some now obsolete classifications, the species having prominent face stripes―colloquially called foxfaces–are in the genus Lo. Other species like the Masked Spinefoot (S. puellus) show a reduced form of the stripe pattern. Rabbitfishes are found in shallow lagoons in the Indo-Pacific and eastern Mediterranean[1].

CommentThis submission is not about correcting the above. It is about duplication.

When I was searching for "かんかんに," the above entry came up in the list. Then, at the bottom of the page, it stated that there were a couple more entries. I clicked on that and a duplicate of the above came up. I checked back and forth a few times and both entries still came up. I copied both entries and pasted them side by side and they were entirely identical. I wondered why they did not come up, one following the other; as they were identical. I then did the exercise over again; and again the duplicate entry appeared. I just thought that I would report that.
