#htl The JMDict Project #shc The JMDict Project #b Background The JMdict (Japanese-Multilingual Dictionary) project has at its aim the compilation of a multilingual lexical database with Japanese as the pivot language. The project began in 1999 as an offshoot of the EDICT Japanese-English Electronic Dictionary project. It involved a major rebuild of the main files, with a more complex structure using XML. The first release of the JMdict file occurred in May 1999, with occasional releases after that. From mid-2006 the JMdict file has been generated daily from the source database (along with the matching EDICT and EDICT2 files.) The source database is updated almost every day. The version linked below will always be the most recent version. #b Information #uls #li the #url jmdict_proj_desc.html project overview. #i (somewhat dated now) #li the #url http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/edict_doc.html documentation page for both JMdict and EDICT. #li a #url http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/jmdictart.html paper about the project presented at the COLING Multilingual Linguistic Resources Workshop in Geneva in August 2004. #li an earlier #url http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/ws2002_paper.html paper about some of the practical issues, presented at the Papillon Project workshop in Tokyo in July 2002. #li a #url jmdict_sample.html sample from the JMdict file (you'll need Unicode/UTF8 support in your browser to see this.) #li the #url jmdict_dtd_h.html DTD (XML Document Type Declaration) or #url jmdict_dtd_v107 download the file. #li the #url ftp://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/JMdict.gz current version (Unicode UTF8) (Warning!
