Kanji Information

In addition to the main KANJIDIC, KANJD212 and KANJIDIC2 files, I have assembled several other pages of useful information about kanji.

• a quick overview of the different types of kanji.

• a list of the 214 kanji radicals with their names, etc.

• a list of the Jouyou (common use) kanji and other kanji that are likely to be seen.

• a list of the standard readings of the Jouyou kanji.

• a great list of shinjitai/kyuujitai kanji pairs prepared by Leonardo Boiko.

• the kanji mnemonics from Henshall's "A Guide To Remembering Japanese Characters". They were keyed by William Clausing, and this page covering the kanji taught in the first six grades of school has been compiled with permission from Professor Henshall and his publishers, Tuttle.

• the keywords in the "Remembering The Kanji" books by James Heisig. This list was contributed by Mike Spertus, who got Fr Heisig's approval for its inclusion.
