If a pair of characters/ligatures were printed with a single piece of type,
we expect a fixed spatial relationship bwteen them.
To test this, we carried out two sets of measurements: (a) horizontal and
vertical separation
between
the characters, (b) horizontal and vertical separation of the centroids.
