AI Subjects
AI subjects taught around FCIT are described here. Initially we include
handbook entries only; however, we will extend the descriptions by including
subject syllabi and/or reading lists as they become available.
- CSC2030 Foundations of Computing:
This subject introduces the theory of computation and predicate
logic, which are fundamental to understanding knowledge
representation in AI and the limits of AI. It is a prerequisite
to the other CS subjects listed below.
- CSC3050 Advanced Theory of Computation:
This subject looks at the theory of computational complexity and
NP-completeness; understanding these issues has wide
applicability in computer science, including the assessment of AI
algorithms.
- CSC3091 Artificial Intelligence:
A survey of the main issues and techniques of AI, including
knowledge representation, planning, problem solving and an
introduction to programming in Lisp.
- CSC3200 Machine Learning:
A survey of the main contending approaches to machine learning,
from traditional symbolic learning through decision trees and
genetic algorithms to anti-symbolic connectionist learning.
