2002: CSC423 was replaced by CSE454 `Learning and Prediction I: Data Mining' (3pts) and CSE455 `Learning and Prediction II: MML Data Mining' (3pts). CSE454 is a prerequisite for CSE455. See D.L.Dowe for details of CSE455.

2001: DLD started off.

CSE423: Topics include: elementary information theory (including noiseless coding and Huffman codes); elementary foundations of inductive inference; introduction to Minimum Message Length (MML) inference; MML approaches to clustering, unsupervised classification, decision trees, causal modelling, data mining. Applications to be considered include: image compression, models of protein folding, bushfire prediction, DNA alignment and the human genome project, authorship identification for texts, etc.
