JavaScript
is an interpreted language
initially implemented in the Netscape world wide web browser.
JavaScript is not Java plus or minus.
It is a separate language that has a superficial resemblance
to Java, partly because of a common application area (HTML / web)
and common ancestry (C with object oriented features).
JavaScript programs are run on the client computer
usually by a web browser which must have JavaScript enabled
(for
Netscape4+ [edit] -> preferences -> advanced
-> enable JavaScript,
for
Netscape3+ check `Options' then `Network Preferences' then `Languages'.)
NB. Microsoft Explorer has its own
scripting language JScript.
Unfortunately Microsoft Explorer takes JavaScript as JScript
and tries to execute it.
Since JScript does not (as of mid 1997) implement all the JavaScript
features this can lead to various errors.
Microsoft should either implement all of JavaScript
or not treat JavaScript as JScript.
