Nimrod/G 1.1 Updates

This page was originally created on the 31st of May 2002. We intended this page to be used by Nimrod users to see if they have up to date binary distribution. At the moment some of the users are providing the development team with the feadback about the problems they have when running version 1.1, as well as bugs they find. This helps us fix those bugs as well as help users to resolve their Nimrod/G running problems. We encourage all users to report any problems they might have when using Nimrod/G and we will try to help as much as we can.

Update list:

31 May 2002 - Globus resources that have jobmanagers that work with queing systems like pbs, lsf or condor, now have a correct number of nodes/machines on that resource. Before this update, Nimrod/G would set four as a total number of nodes for every resource that is behind a queuing system. Information required from MDS 2.1 is Mds-Coputer-Total-nodeCount, so in order for this to work properly that attribute must be present in MDS.
5 June 2002 - Added a small utility called nimrodgen to the distribution. This will allow users to create a run file from the plan file they create without using EnFuzion generator. This should work fine with every parameter type in the plan file. One bug exists though, parameters of type text gets added one extra set of double quotes arround parameter values. At the moment users can fix that by manually editting the run file and removing that extra set of double quotes. This will be fixed very soon.
Usage: <nimrod inst. directory>/bin/nimrodgen file.pln
It will create file.run
14 June 2002 - Modified code that gets cpuload information from MDS 2.1. Before this Nimrod/G 1.1 would ask MDS for Mds-Cpu-Total-Free-1minX100 attribute. It seems that some machines only have Mds-Cpu-Free-1minX100 value in MDS, so now, when the first one is missing, Nimrod/G 1.1 will get the second value and use it to determine the cpuload on the machine.
01 July 2002 - Fixed the problem where Nimrod/G 1.1 would not run on machines that do not have the same version of bsdb library as the machine where Nimrod was built (even though Nimrod is not using those libraries). Now Nimrod/G is built without any dependancies on bsdb library.
16 August 2002 - Added ALPHA OSFv5.1 binary distribution for download.
11 November 2002 - nimrodcreate should create experiments without fails now. Director I/O should not be displayed anymore on the startup. Now there will be a "Connecting ..." message until job are loaded. Also globus module handles sunos as a OS name for the resources.
