UNIT Information
The MUSE Studio is a Lab of the Faculty of IT equipped with thirty two (32) brand new (as of 2005/1) high-end HP workstations on lease, two servers and printer. The standard Monash ITS student software environment is installed in the lab allowing booting into an MS Windows XP or Linux environment. In addition, industrial sponsors provide us with advanced professional engineering packages specifically for the MUSE lab. This extension is under the control of the Clayton IT services group of the Faculty of IT. The MUSE Studio lab is available primarily to the 4th year SE students. Any other class group are allowed access to the Lab by prior approval by the Head of School, Clayton. It should also be available as an open access room for BSE 4th year students' use when they are not scheduled for CSE4002 and CSE4431 classes.
Unit structure and organisation
Printed versions of the Handbook will be distributed in class in week 1 of class.
Assessment, Week by week Activities/Assessment etc are described in detail
in the 40 page Handbook for the current year including dates re: non teaching period etc.
Online version of the same is available at CSE4002 Handbook Detailed Description Online
It is important that your solutions to the assignment questions be your own work. It is perfectly acceptable to seek help and advice when completing the assignments, but this must not be taken to the point where what is submitted is in part someone else's work.
Refer to Statute 4.1 on Discipline prescribed by Monash as University policy on cheating
Please note that, since the assignments are used in assessing your final grade in this unit, the Faculty policy on Cheating applies. In addition, the following School policy applies. Read "Assignments" in the context of CSE4002 as any piece of work that a student hands in for assessment as part of the group project.
The assignments set in this unit are designed primarily as learning exercises, but they also contribute to your final grade. Copying of other student's assignment solutions is unacceptable.
All students have a responsibility to ensure that their assignment solutions are their own work. You must ensure that others do not obtain access to your solutions for the purpose of copying a part of them. Where such plagiarism is detected, all of the assignments involved will receive no marks.
Computing Resources
You need to be aware that the computing resources that may be supplied to you in order to undertake this unit cost real money, and the university has had to impose limits on the use of the internet for all staff and students. A quota system is to be introduced this year, but in the meantime you must make yourself aware of the "Acceptable Use" policies of both the faculty and the university. These can be accessed on the web at:
http://www.infotech.monash.edu.au/myfit/students/student_labinfo_rules_netusage.cfm http://www.adm.monash.edu.au/unisec/pol/itec12.html
Note that accessing these and other course-related URLs from within Monash is free from within the Monash network, and is not regarded as part of quota.
