On the day

  1. Look at the question of the impact of assumptions on educational and related research

    What does a population mean?
To what extent can we generalise these results?
The complexity of the output from conventional analyses
      e.g. t-test as a basic tool

  2. Look at the assumptions which drive computer intensive methods

  3. Look at the basic algorithms - not mathematical or statistical algorithms
      e.g. basic bootstrap

  4. Run some data sets

Using various software tools including SPSS

  5. Compare results on both conventional and intensive – adding in robust conventional
