%X "... survey of recent results on Thue systems, where the systems are viewed
as rewriting systems on strings over a finite alphabet. The emphasis is on
Thue systems with the Church-Rosser property, where the notion of red'n is
based on length-decreasing rewriting rules. The main effort is expended in
outlining the properties of such systems, paying close attention to the issue
of the possible decidability of properties & to the issue of the comp'al
complexity of decidable properties. Since Thue systems may also be considered
as presentations of monoids, the language of monoids (& groups) is used to
describe some of these properties."

%X Sadly just a 1/2 page abstract at the doi:-(
"At first glance, OOP has little or nothing in common with FP. One grew out of
the procedural tradition ... computing proceeds via method calls. The other
is a radical departure from conventional programming. It emphasizes an
(almost) purely math. approach. ... Still, nobody can overlook the
similarities of the two approaches considering the development of design
patterns & notions of effective object-oriented programming practices. In my
talk, I will compare and contrast the two ideas of programming & PL-design.
I will present & defend the thesis that good OOP heavily 'borrows' from FP
& that the future of OOP is to study FP & language design even more." :-(
